I usually do my best to stay away from fads. There is something about my identity that actually balks at the idea of conforming.Everyone assumes because I like a wild fro, other natural dos, and tattoos that I must be into mother earth as my spiritual guiding force. Or better yet people assume that I automatically like spoken word which, I don’t give me a well written piece of prose any day.


So much to my surprise I have fallen victim to the Bubble Tea craze that has taken over my co-workers. I am honestly a groupie; I stop by almost everyday on my way home. I am going to try and cut back to twice a week because this Bubble Tea compulsion is getting out of hand. However, I do highly recommend the Jasmine tea with Bubbles.

It is almost State Fair of Texas time! I am not a native Dallasite so I still get excited when the State Fair rolls around. I am one of those people that will walk around with a gigantic turkey leg in one hand and a Fletcher’s corn dog in the other. I like to try the new fried food as well and this year’s contestants did not disappoint. Foods that I am looking forward to trying this year are:


Fried Banana Split
Creator: Shirley Weiss

What is it? Banana and honey peanut butter rolled in balls, battered and deep-fried. Topped with powdered sugar, caramel and chocolate syrups, chopped peanuts, whipped cream, banana split-flavored ice cream bites, and a cherry.



Fire & Ice
Creator: Abel Gonzales

What is it? A pineapple ring battered and deep-fried, topped with banana-flavored whipped cream that's been frozen in liquid nitrogen. The smoking concoction is covered in strawberries and syrup.



Chocolate-Covered Strawberry Waffle Balls

What is it? Fresh strawberries covered in a thick chocolate shell, dipped in a waffle batter and deep-fried. Dusted with powdered sugar and served on a stick.




Food that I will not try this year:



Chicken Fried Bacon

What is it? Thick and peppery bacon seasoned, double-dipped in a batter and breading and deep-fried. Served with a side of ranch or honey mustard sauce.


Texas Fried Jelly Bellies
Creator: Justin Martinez

What is it? Jelly Bellies rolled in funnel cake batter and fried. Try to guess the Jelly Belly flavors as you bite into this treat.


Deep Fried S'mores
Creator: Tami Stiffler

What is it? Marshmallow cream and chocolate chips sandwiched between two graham crackers, dipped in batter, fried and dusted in powdered sugar.


Fried Chocolate Truffles
Creator: Nick Bert Jr.

What is it? A handmade dark chocolate truffle rolled in cocoa powder, battered and deep-fried. The truffle is then dusted in cinnamon, sugar and more cocoa powder.

This post was inspired by fellow blogger Sidittyand our mutual love and desire to throw panties at the one and only Prince.

I don’t know what it is but it is definitely something about the way that he is wearing that blouse that says rrrrrrrr. No seriously, I have not figured out what it is that makes a 5’2” guy wearing butt less chaps attractive, call it aura, essence just distill IT down and Viola, you have whatever IT is that makes Prince attractive.




Malik Yoba, this is one nice looking man now if he can just keep a tube of Chap Stick in his pocket. Why are his lips always so ashy?




Eric La Salle, I guess you are wondering why he made the list because he is a decent looking guy. Well I don’t like close cut caesar La Salle but let your soul glo Jheir Curl wearing Eric La Salle, go figure.





Michael Jackson, and I mean Thriller Michael not I’m Bad Michael.





Lil Wayne, yes I get A LOT of flack about this one from friends. However, a guy with dreads will ALWAYS get a second look.
